Additional Details

An album of large-format group portraits and views, most of them from Harvard. The first is of the Harvard Law School class of 1875, the next 4 or 5 depict students at the Cutler School in New York from 1894 to 1896, and the remainder were kept by a member of the Harvard Class of 1900. Several Harvard student organizations are depicted, including the Institute of 1770, track team, Harvard Lampoon, and Digamma. Several of the Harvard organizations depict students in drag: Cercle Français, Delta Kappa Epsilon, and the Hasty Pudding Club. Three photographs depict members of Harvard Law School and Phi Delta Phi, its legal honor society, from 1902 and 1903. Two long folding panoramas depict the Harvard Class of 1900 at the beach for graduation, and at a 1910 reunion.
Three photographs show "L.C.L. Jr's room" in Harvard's Claverly Hall, suggesting that this album was very likely compiled by Lewis Cass Ledyard Jr. (1879-1936), a graduate of the Cutler School and Harvard's Class of 1900. Ledyard was involved in most of the organizations depicted here, including the Lampoon and Hasty Pudding, and his well-known father was an 1875 graduate of Harvard Law.
