Additional Details

A register of burials in a cemetery in Ayapango in the state of Mexico. Nearly 2000 burials are recorded, mostly residents of Ayapango and its surrounding villages. Most entries give the name, race, and at least approximate age of the deceased; most are described as Indians. Each is signed by the local priest. Sometimes the priest also notes whether the deceased was intestate, or whether they were too poor to have last rites administered, and other circumstances of death are occasionally noted. "Maria Josepha, india" was buried on 25 April 1806, and it was noted that she did not make a will or receive the holy sacraments because her death was very sudden. On the rear pastedown is a drawing of a figure on a pedestal bearing a banner that reminds us "Death finishes all," with a short poem on mortality below.
