María de Benavides inherited control of the Calderón-Ribera printing dynasty in 1685 and became the first woman whose name appeared regularly in Mexican imprints (see Ward, "Mexico, where they coin money and print books: the Calderón dynasty and the Mexican book trade," University of Texas dissertation, page 147).
