Printed discharge certificate for the U.S. Army indicating that Robert Daniel, a private in Capt. Miles Hollister's Company K, 123rd Regiment of the U.S. Colored Troops, volunteered to serve one year on 31 March 1865, just weeks before the end of the war. He was discharged on 16 October of the same year at Louisville. The form lists Daniel's place of birth as Iowa, gives his height and the color of his eyes and skin, and lists his occupation at time of enlistment as "servant."
