Additional Details

This regiment was formed in Port Hudson, LA in September 1863 as the 12th Corps de Afrique Infantry. They were active in the Red River Campaign in early 1864, and remained in occupied Louisiana through their muster out in March 1866. This roll lists all of the soldiers who served in the company over its three years, with those who deserted or died in a separate section near the end. Each soldier's age, rank, and date and place of joining are noted, along with other notes on their service. Among the 35 deceased soldiers, the causes of death range from smallpox to pneumonia to dysentery. Private William J. Monroe was the only one to die of a gunshot wound.
