(MOBIL OIL GAS STATIONS)
A vast and comprehensive album, containing over 330 photographs and 100 negatives, documenting, in a rigorous typology, the numerous Mobil Oil service stations throughout Iowa, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
Including album pages dedicated to specific locations in the Midwest and West, highlighting the transformation of some gas stations from mom-and-pop fill-er-ups, to full service Mobil Oil lots, complete with a Mobilubrication workshop, tire services, and even a few with secondhand dealerships. Many of the images document the before and after transformations, from outdated building designs, to a new, sleek mid-century style. Silver (333) and chromogenic (one) prints, the images measuring approximately 1x2 to 8x10 inches (2.5x5.1 to 20.3x25.4 cm.), mounted recto/verso to blue pages, each station with a typed caption label identifying the city and cross streets on page recto, and many with an envelope containing original negatives (104), and a few with prints, on page verso. Large 4to, black leatherette, with the Socony Mobil Oil Company label on the cover. Late 1930s-50s
