(MUSIC.) DWINELL, C. S., MANAGER. The Original Norfolk Jubilee Singers from Norfolk VA, a Genuine Slave Band. Large two-sided broadside poster, 18-3/4 x 10-1/2 inches; a couple of small, closed tears (easily repairable); paper lightly and evenly toned with a few tiny spots of foxing. With seven oval portraits including that of Dwinell, plus a large vignette showing slaves in a field of cotton, an overseer mounted, shotgun over one shoulder, a bullwhip in his right hand. Additional Details

a rare survival of a fragile piece. The Norfolk Jubilee Singers followed the Fisk Singers as did many such 'ex-slave' singing groups. The Norfolk singers recorded some of their numbers in the early years of the 20th century.
