Additional Details

Most of these photographs document downed, dangerous, or damaged trees in western national parks--some of them laying atop crushed camper trucks and tents. Some are from Potwisha Campground at Sequoia National Park in 1973; Deerhead Campground in Lincoln National Forest, Cloudcroft, NM; Wapiti Campground at Shoshone National Forest, WY in 1970; and Yosemite Lodge and Camp Curry at Yosemite National Park, CA in 1967. Two Polaroids from Washington's Wenatchee National Park in 1977 are accompanied by an explanatory note from the park ranger who took them. Several photographs are marked "Paine," and three of them are laid out for use in Lee Paine's 1973 pamphlet "Administrative Goals and Safety Standards for Hazard Control on Forested Recreation Sites." A bit far afield from our usual offerings, but if you like trees and like parks, you will probably like these photographs.
