5th state of a compilation of popular psalm tunes, first issued in 1794. Amos Doolittle may have handled the engraving of the plates (he signed one of the plates in Volume I). 46 of the 63 tunes were composed by Americans. This edition is expanded to include 16 pages of "additional music." It marks the first appearance of 6 tunes. In the rear are 4 pages of manuscript tunes, including "America," "Jerusalem," "Portuguese Hymn," "German Air," and "Newry." Britton, American Sacred Music 420.
