This photograph dates from before Gravesend's 1895 merger into the larger Brooklyn fire department. 45 men in uniform are shown, each with their initials visible on their helmets, as well as two young mascots. They stand in front of the Gravesend Beach Engine, Hose, Hook & Ladder Company, Union No. 1, apparently located right on the beach.
