A group of 50 photographs by accomplished professional photographers of South Seas islands, comprising 6 of Maoris in facepaint and ritual dress, one of a "Tiki," a montage entitled "Through the King Country with the Camera," and 2 of native habitats.
The remaining prints include well-executed pastoral landscapes, scenes throughout Auckland (the city, harbor, and government buildings), beachgoers at Dunedin, busy scenes of workers at the Hobart wharf, and views of rural Wellington; 2 credited to Pulman, 14 to F.A. Coxhead, and 8 to Burton Bros. Albumen prints, the images measuring approximately 8x6 inches (20.3x15.2 cm.), and the reverse, the mounts 11x9 to 13x9 3/4 inches (28x22.9 to 33x24.8 cm.), most with a caption and inventory number in the negative, and many with a caption, in German, in ink, on mount recto. Circa 1890.
