Additional Details

The previously unknown first printing in the Americas of a scarce and important report on the Abipóne, Charrua, Guaycuru and Mocobi peoples of Paraguay. It is bound as issued with an extract on Paraguay from Santacilia and Ulloa's 1748 "Relacion historica" of their scientific voyage to South America (the appendix closes with the note "impresso con las mismas licencias, que el antecedente Informe").

The original report was written in Buenos Aires on 8 January 1743. It was originally printed on 4 folio leaves with no imprint line. This printing states that the first printing was in Madrid in 1755, and that it is here reprinted in Guatemala in 1759. Not in Palau or Medina's Guatemala Imprints. OCLC lists 3 examples of the original folio printing. We trace no examples of the first edition at auction since 1935; Kenneth Nebenzahl listed one at retail in his 1960 catalogue. We find no examples of this 1759 Guatemala edition at auction, in OCLC, or elsewhere.
