Pair of photographs, 10 x 8 inches, each signed and dated by Van Der Zee in the negative, with his inked "GGG Photo Studio" stamp on verso; minor wear including a 1-inch corner crease and a faint blue stain in one image offset from the autograph; both signed "Clyde Bernhardt" on verso (one of them a bit smudged). The trombonist and vocalist Clyde Edric Barron Bernhardt (1905-1986), shown here with the tools of his trade, made his name as a sideman for King Oliver and Edgar Hayes before leading his own ensembles in the 1940s. He continued playing and published a memoir shortly before his death in 1986.
