Additional Details

One of the five presidential portraits from William Doggett's American Kings series. Doggett commissioned portraits of the first five presidents by Gilbert Stuart, then hired the Pendletons (America's pioneering lithographers) to reproduce them. The Pendletons outsourced the job to a French lithographer, who shipped the completed stones back to Boston. The Gilbert Stuart portraits have long since been lost in a fire.
