Additional Details

This letter announces the formation of districts of Taylor supporters in Kanawha County, VA (now West Virginia), and names in manuscript the 6 members of the Committee of Vigilance for District 6. A paragraph is devoted to the merits of General Taylor, "a man who for forty years has been in the service of his country, and who by his sterling good sense--his faculty of doing right--has shown himself equal to any emergency." His principles are called as "conservative as are those of Mr. Clay, or as were those of General Washington." No other examples of this circular have been traced.
