(PRESIDENTS--1852 CAMPAIGN.) Boston Commonwealth Extra--The Platforms of the Parties. Read, Reflect, and then Act! 2 pages, 21 3/4 x 16 inches, on one sheet; folds, foxing, minor edge wear. Boston, [1852]

Additional Details

The front side provides the full platforms for the three national parties contesting the 1852 election: the "Compromise Democratic," Whig, and "Free Democratic"--the latter being the upstart abolitionists more commonly known as the Free Soil Party. On verso, the broadsheet's allegiances become clear with a half-page printing of "The Fugitive Slave Law! America's Bill of Abominations!!" with Whig president Millard Fillmore's signature highlighted in larger type. Below that is an editorial titled "To the People of the United States!--The Issue before the Nation!" by "Alexander," arguing for the third-party Free Soil ticket. 2 traced in OCLC.
