The jury found that Ned, a "negro man slave" owned by Mary A. Walker, "not having the fear of God before his eyes but being moved and seduced by the instigation of the Devil, with force and arms, in and upon one Prudence, a negro woman slave . . . did make an assault, and that the said Ned a certain musket gun . . . did shoot and discharge," hitting her in the right eye and instantly killing her. He was thus found guilty of murder.
