Additional Details

A "deed of emancipation" which was to take place after three additional years of servitude. "I John Littlejohn . . . do hereby manumit and set free my negro woman Rachal from and after . . . the year 1804 from all claims . . . as to any service . . . as a slave." It is accompanied by a card typed by an unknown descendant explaining that "for many years Mammy Rachel served the family as nurse, mammy, and beloved friend."
