A boy named Ki, about eighteen years of age, is being sold to Samuel Forbes by Abraham Hollenbeck.
Samuel Forbes (1729-1827) was a pioneer ironworker in Connecticut, who became active in a variety of businesses connected to the iron industry, centered in Salisbury. In 1768 he and partners (including Ethan Allen) turned a small forge into a blast furnace which later became the firm of Forbes & Allen. Forbes was a slaveholder who eventually freed his own slaves, and made his home a way station on the Underground Railroad.
