The last step before emancipation for the Free "morena" Juana and her mulatto son Enrique. 12 pages on 9 leaves of various size, written on six sides; paper toned, Spanish tax stamps; signed by Juana's owner, Manuel Milia and various officials. The "morena" [dark skinned ] Juana, a free woman sues for patronato status for her 13 year old son Enrique. It is approved and signed by--- we can assume--- her old master Manuel Milia. The last date on the last leaf of this lengthy document, is dated March of 1886. By November, all of Cuba's slaves would be free.
