Additional Details

Deed of transfer for various "patronicados" being the property of Arrenaga, Clark and Co and Ortiz, Barberia and Co. (planters) to Don Jose Plazaola. It is significant to note the way the document is worded: people cited are referred to as either "criollo," born on the island, or "de Africa," someone born in Africa. This would clearly mean the Cuba officials were acknowledging a violation of the 1807 ban on the seizure of slaves from Africa.
