Additional Details

Frederick Douglass ran the North Star as a weekly for the period of 1847 to 1851, then changed to a slightly smaller format with the name, "Frederick Douglass's Paper." The present is a very important issue of the paper, printing Charles Sumner's argument in favor of the de-segregation of the Smith Street School and the Boston Public School System. William C. Nell and other prominent black Bostonians had been fighting for this for over a year.
