Additional Details

A local printing of a 5 April decree by President José Justo Corro, abolishing slavery throughout Mexico: "Queda abolida sin excepcion alguna la esclavitud en toda la República." It provides for compensation to slaveholders--except those who had supported the Texan Revolution: "La indemnizacion de que habla esta artículo, no tendrá lugar respecto de los Colonos de Tejas que hayan tomado parte en la revolucion de aquel Departamento."
Mexico had abolished slavery in 1829, but had granted an exception to Texas. As Texas had already left Mexico by this point, this decree was comparable to Lincoln freeing the slaves in the Confederacy. None of this printing traced in OCLC, though 2 copies of the 5 April printing are found.
