Additional Details

Based on a print by Gilray, this is a satire on the British naval losses in the War of 1812. King George III desperately tries to replenish his navy with the "Patent Oven for Bakeing Ships," but is warned that "You had better keep both your Ships and Guns at home. If you send all you've got to the Lakes, it will only make fun for the Yankeys to take them." Murrell, American Graphic Humor, page I:88 and plate 78.
