(WORLD WAR I--ERNEST BROOKS & THOMAS KEITH AITKEN)
An album of 24 official British photographs taken on the Western front during WWI.
Includes some well-known and documented images, including tanks in action, the trenches, the machinery and guns of war, and a woman and her "sole possession" (a cow) in Paris. Some of these images are by named photographers, including Ernest Brooks, the first Official British War Photographer and war photographer Thomas Keith Aitken. The album was likely assembled by N.G. Guthrie, who appears in one of 8 glass slides that accompany the album (pictured in his service uniform and on his Triumph motorcycle). Silver prints, the images measuring 7 1/4x9 1/4 inches (18.4x23.5 cm.), and slightly smaller, mounted recto/verso, each with a caption in white in ink below the image. Oblong 4to, brown cloth boards. Circa 1916-18
