Hirschfeld included a self portrait in the elbow of the arm of the woman at left smoking a cigarette. His wife, Dolly Haas, can be seen at the end of the table with two dots for eyes and no nose.

Built by Pan American World Airways to welcome 1950s jet-setters, the El San Juan Hotel opened in Puerto Rico on February 1, 1958. A decade later, an ambitious redesign by architect Morris Lapidus and designer Alan Lanigan transformed it into an icon of elegance and entertainment, cementing its worldwide fame.
