ALBERT SEBILLE (1874-1953) FRENCH LINE / HAVRE, PLYMOUTH, NEW YORK. 1922.
39 1/2x24 3/4 inches, 100 1/2x63 cm. Crete, Paris.
Condition B+: restoration and overpainting along left edge; minor staining in image.
A wonderful bird's-eye view of the Ile de France pulling into New York harbor. The perspective allows the viewer to see how large this majestic ocean liner is compared to some of New York's skyscrapers. Sebille was an accomplished maritime artist who created many posters for the French Line. His signature on works is invariably followed by an anchor, emphasizing his connection to the sea.
