ALMERY LOBEL-RICHE (1880-1950) PEUGEOT CYCLES. Circa 1900.
32x24 inches. Camis & Cie., Paris.
Condition B: losses, tears, creases and staining in margins. Paper.
An illustrator who was known for his tireless, sensuous depiction of the female body, Lobel-Riche designed only this one poster. The image cleverly conveys two messages: That Peugeot cycles are a pleasure for a couple to ride, and that more than just fun, they can also transport you faster than a steaming train. The effect of the light from the bicycle's lanterns, illuminating the two riders, and the glowing cabin of the train's engine are an ingenious graphic juxtaposition, and that the orange color is further represented in the typography adds to the overall graphic impact of this charming image.
