ANDRÉ MARTIN (DATES UNKNOWN) CITROËN. 1955.
40 1/2x30 inches, 103x76 cm. Conzett & Huber.
Condition A. Paper.
Designed by Flaminio Bertoni and produced between 1955 and 1976, the Citroën DS was a revolutionary car, filled with innovations like the hydropneumatic high fuel suspension. Seen from the front, buzzing down a road at rapid speed, one can recognize this early model by its distinctive head lamps and radiator grill. This simple yet effective poster was a first glimpse at what would become one of the most recognizable and iconic cars ever produced. In fact, the D.S. (" la déesse," which means goddess in French) was elected one of the cars of the century by the Global Automotive Elections Foundation. The Citroën DS was also famous for protecting President Charles de Gaulle from an assassination attempt in 1962 by opponents of Algerian independence.
