ANDY WARHOL (1928-1987)

The Velvet Underground & Nico.
Group of 12 albums, with covers in various stages of unpeeling. Each approximately 317x317 mm, 12½x12½ inches. 1967.

Produced by Andy Warhol, The Velvet Underground and Nico is the band's first album, recorded the previous year when they were touring with Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable tour. Warhol's cover, with a removable sticker over a banana, was geared as a selling point, turning the album into a work of art.

Various issues and pressings (East Coast and West Coast, Mono and Stereo) and album covers: including the Torso Cover (with Eric Emerson projected upside down on the back cover) (2); the Lawsuit cover (with a black sticker reading, "The Velvet Underground and Nico Produced by Andy Warhol / Verve" covering the actor's image (4); and from a subsequent pressing where Emerson's image is air brushed out (6). V-5008 and V6-5008.

This selection of 12 albums serves not only as an impressive Pop-Art, flip book-style striptease of the Andy Warhol banana in various stages of unpeel, but also traces the convoluted release history of the LP; containing many of the different pressings and variations of the album.

With 12 custom-made plexiglass frames for display.
