CHRISTIAN MARCLAY (1955- )

Record Without a Cover.
Two vinyl albums. Each 298 mm, 11¾ inches in diameter. Recycled Records. 1985.

The record's reverse side bears black lettering stating, "DO NOT STORE IN A PROTECTIVE SLEEVE," and detailing, like liner notes, production information, and special thanks.

With- original press release from the Hallwalls Contemporary Art Center, in Buffalo, New York, who supported the release of the album. "This unconventional record is designed to be sold without a jacket, not even a sleeve! We recommend you do not store it in a protective package as you do with the rest of your collection. You do not have to worry about getting the record scratched, or about getting dust or fingerprints on its surface. On the contrary, the damages will in time enhance the recording, making the deterioration an integral part of the composition. So relax! The more careless you are the more you will get from listening to Christian Marclay's one-man-band of turntables mixing pops, skips, hisses and musical airs culled from the world's mass collection of records."
