The 1990s were a decade of remarkable innovation in video games, marked by significant changes such as the consolidation of publishers, higher-budget games, larger production teams, and collaborations with both the music and film industries. Atomic's Close Combat series transformed strategy games by combining realistic battle simulation with intense action, paving the way for the "real-time tactical" genre. PC Gamer hailed Close Combat as one of the "50 Best Games Ever," while Gamespy ranked it among the "Top 10 Strategy Games of All Time." The series sold over a million copies.
