In the 1930s Philips, a Dutch company, commissioned such well-known artist as A. M. Cassandre and Louis Kalff to design posters and, in each instance, the company opted for a realistic depiction of a light bulb, or transistor. This poster is a typical example of how the skillful, anonymous, designers who worked at printer's studios performed their jobs. The poster, clearly styled after the German object posters of Lucian Bernhard, is well drawn and balanced, and the typography and coloring conform to the brand's image.
