Faulwell (born 1982) is an Iranian-American artist who lives and works in Newport Beach, California. He was born in Caldwell, Idaho and graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2005 and the Claremont Graduate University, where he was a Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant recipient, in 2008. Faulwell's works explore international conflicts and issues such as identity, colonialism, gender, and morality. Faulwell began working with photo collage while considering his own identity as an Iranian-American in the post 9/11 era. Drawing from Abstract Expressionism and his coursework in Middle Eastern/North African Studies, Faulwell combines seemingly diametrically opposed traditions. Faulwell's work has been exhibited internationally to wide acclaim and have been collected by important institutions such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.
