Fathi (born 1972) is an Iranian artist who grew up during the Islamic Revolution and the Iran-Iraq War. Fathi began her artistic career with intensive training in calligraphy. She graduated from Azad University, Tehran and holds a diploma from the Iranian Society of Calligraphy. Though Fathi has left her work as a successful calligrapher, her artwork is still inspired by the practice. Her work is intuitive and combines inspirations from Abstract Expressionism and Middle Eastern moden art with the rich traditions of calligraphy. Fathi has gained international recognition as an artist and her work is held in the permanent collections of several important institutions, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and The British Museum, London.
