Large 8vo, 257x163 mm, contemporary green morocco gilt, Volumes 2 and 5 spines slightly chipped at top; moderate to heavy foxing on text leaves, most noticeably on Volume 1 preliminaries, with typewritten biographical note and newspaper cutting mounted on verso of free endpaper facing title, Volume 4 title browned by cutting mounted on facing flyleaf, faint even toning primarily on plates in first 4 volumes, many of those also lightly offset, paper of plates in last 3 volumes generally brighter, several dozen plates throughout with varying foxing, stains, or smudges. Hackley Public Library bookplates, stamp and accession number on verso of titles, and unobtrusive monogram stamp on verso of plates, not visible on recto. New York & Philadelphia, 1840-44
