This drawing is from the beginning of a series entitled Le Lit by Barbara Chase-Riboud which spans 1966-1973. It shows her transition from her early Surrealist and figurative imagery to her draped constructions of the late 1960s. Chase-Riboud had a solo exhibition at Galerie Cadran Solaire, Paris, France that year; another 1966 drawing is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art. Several drawings from this series were exhibited in Barbara Chase-Riboud: The 1960s & 1970s, Michael Rosenfeld Gallery, May 5-7, 2017 at Frieze, New York.
