Polish-born Berta Margoulies O'Hare (1907-1996) immigrated to the United States during World War I and studied at the Art Students League in New York. She became friends with William and Marguerite Zorach in the 1930s and spent summers working with them in Maine. While working for the WPA she met her husband, Eugene O'Hare, an inventor and author of the Special Skill section of the New Deal.
