Woody Woodpecker Comic Preliminary Drawings "Riding Stables" and "Out to Lunch."

2 comic preliminary drawings, circa 1950: one comic is a full comic strip about Woody's struggle to mount a horse, and the other panel is a punchline showing the comic artist has gone out to lunch.

"Riding Stables:" pencil and colored pencil on paper, drawn by Bill Weaver. 277x216 mm; 11x8½ inches. Initialed and marked "W.L., OK" in red pencil by studio founder Walter Lantz, who personally approved the idea for publication.

"Out to Lunch:" Pencil on vellum. 172x147 mm; 6¾x5¾ inches.

Additional Details

Bill Weaver worked in animation at Disney and other studios before moving on to a prolific career in "funny animal" comics featuring Lantz, Disney, and other studios' characters. Weaver's animation background is very apparent in his comics work.
