Additional Details

This is the United States map from Carey's General Atlas, the first general atlas engraved and published in America. Per Rumsey, this map does not appear until the 1796 edition of this atlas, despite being called for in the '95 contents. Strangely enough it does not appear in the 1795 edition of Carey's American Atlas, which is without a general map of the United States. The map is also noteworthy for its particularly poor handling of Lake Superior and the northwest. Rumsey 2862.
