". . . Whereas we do expect that the Archbishop of Glasgow will resigne into Our hands his Bishoprick . . . . [W]ee do therefore hereby will & require you to beare unto him . . . the yearly payment of three or four hundred pounds Sterling for so long time, & which manner as you shall think fit . . . ."
The Archbishop mentioned in the present letter, Alexander Burnet, did in fact resign; before the close of the year, Robert Leighton was appointed to replace him.
