Trained as an apprentice at the Wolfsberg printing plant, Kuhn went on to open his own graphic design studio. He was very active during the 1940s and won several awards for his work, including this campaign for the Swiss Telephone Company. In 1928, Kuhn designed his first poster for this Zurich taxi company, which was primarily an Art Deco typographic exercise built along a powerful diagonal, with the simple form of an automobile, and a blue and yellow color scheme. In this later design, he relies on the use of an airbrush to delineate the muted blue and yellow background, with a sleek, organized and innovatively-cropped view of a woman and her chauffeur in the foreground, achieving the unusual combination of static and sophisticated. Rare. We could find no other examples at auction.
