Etching and aquatint, circa 1940. 151x125 mm; 5 7/8x4 7/8 inches, wide (full) margins. Signed, numbered 3/10 and inscribed "PRINTS" and "To Isabelle + Truman." in pencil, lower margin. A very good, dark impression with warm plate tone and inky plate edges of this very scarce print.
Truman K. Gibson, Jr., (1912 - 2005) was the Executive Director of the 1940 American Negro Exposition in Chicago where White first received national recognition for his work. He was also a member of The Black Cabinet (also known as the Federal Council of Negro Affairs), a group of African Americans who served as public policy advisors to President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his wife Eleanor Roosevelt. Truman was the chief advisor for Henry L. Stimson, for racial affairs in the army in the 1940s. Later in his career, he returned to private practice, representing such clients as Joe Louis.
