Additional Details

In 1947 and 1948, paintings submitted by Churchill to the Royal Academy of Arts were accepted for exhibition in the Academy's annual Summer Exhibition. To avoid any influence his name might exert upon the consideration of his submission, Churchill used the pseudonym "David Winter." After revealing his true name, the Academy awarded Churchill the distinction of "Honorary Academician Extraordinary" in 1948.
