Gandy, now virtually unknown, was a Chicago painter and illustrator. He designed a cover of the annual Santa Fe Route booklet for 1898-99, and was noted to have been sent to paint the Pueblo Indians by the railroad's marketing team. Gandy was also a founding member and Treasurer for Chicago artists' "Palette and Chisel Club," which put on annual exhibitions. Gandy did one other cover for Broadway Magazine in December 1907. This is a very early lithographic poster rendering of the buildings in lower Manhattan, very early in the skyscraper era, before the city began to take on its recognizable skyline.
