His paintings are in the collections of the Anacostia Museum, Washington, DC, Smithsonian Institute, Washington, DC, the Hampton Museum, Hampton, VA and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, New York. Simmons was the co-founder of the Def Poetry Jam performance series and the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation.
