Hughson Hawley, a prominent architectural illustrator, designed this bird's eye view of the Garment District between 6th and 9th Avenues, from 35th-41st Streets, before high rises became the norm in that neighborhood. The development of Pennsylvania Station and the U.S. Post office is featured prominently. Hawley "finished a prodigious 11,000 drawings over the course of his 50 year career" (www.nyc-architecture.com).
