FLYING IS THE WAY TO TRAVEL . . . AND TWA IS THE WAY TO FLY / [GRAND CANYON]. Circa 1950s.

39x23 3/4 inches, 99x60 1/4 cm.
Condition B+: repaired tears at lower left edge; repaired tears and restoration along vertical and horizontal folds. Framed.

A unique and graphic over-the-wing, bird's-eye view of the Grand Canyon, seen through the window of a TWA plane, identifiable via the lettering on the wing tip. This image was so popular that TWA used it with several different variants of text. The unknown artist clearly picked up on the visual tradition previously used in train posters, of showing the scenery through the frame of the window - with a curtain to further denote the trappings a traveler could expect in addition to the wondrous natural beauty outside the aircraft.
