In 1938, from May 28 to June 14, the city of Belgrade, in the then Kingdom of Yugoslavia, hosted its first Internationale Aeronautic Exhibition. Five countries participated in the event which took place at the Zemun airfield. The dynamic night-time scene of airplanes flying in and out of giant searchlights is an eerie premonition of the night time air raids that would occur only shortly thereafter in the Second World War.
