Hand-inked and painted key master animation cel setup for a British TV commercial, circa 1980. 300x420 mm; 11¾x16&12; inches, in 16x21-inch mat. The setup is on large 16 field animation cels and consists of 2 cel layers, one with the character and one with the background elements. In original mat as prepared by the studio, with the animator credited in pencil on the reverse.
This extraordinarily rare cel setup for a British animated commercial was designed by the celebrated MAD Magazine cartoonist Don Martin. This is the only known example of art for this commercial. As any fan of Martin would attest, the commercial design quite faithfully translated Don Martin's unmistakable style to animated form.
Len Lewis studio was one of several British commercial studios (Richard Williams Studios being another), which produced animation with production values that were far superior to most US-produced television animation of the time.
